3D Models
Biomason Summer Project
Over the summer of 2021 I worked with my professor and 2 other simulation & game design students on a freelance project for Biomason, Inc. I was tasked with creating 3D models and materials for sand particles that are shown in the animation render. The animation shows how concrete is formed at a micro level. I learned a lot about the importance of texture resolution and scaling with this project as the camera would get very close to the sand particles. I also learned valuable lessons about best practices when working with a group on a bigger project.
Modular Gym
As part of a group project, me and three other group members recreated the Hermann Athletic Center on William Peace University’s campus using Maya. Our goal was to not only accurately represent the real location in a 3D space, but also do so through a modular process. This is the fully assembled 3D recreation that displays all group member’s props. I took reference images of the location, allowing for us to accurately represent its layout and components.
Modular Props
These are the props that I created, two of which are modular and two of which are nonmodular. I fully modelled and UV mapped these props in Maya. I also fully textured these props with Substance Painter. The leg machine and bike were my modular props, which consisted of a number of small components to make the whole prop. I was able to use these smaller components for both workout machines with different textures to accurately represent them in a modular way.
The wall-mounted TV and workout mat were my nonmodular props. I learned through this process how to model cleanly, avoiding N-gons and visual errors.
Foliage Props
In Maya I created these foliage props using NURBS tools. Through this project I learned valuable skills in creating alpha maps, using NURBS to create organic shapes, and further grew my proficiency in UV mapping. I also further grew my skills in using Substance Painter to create materials for models.
Fantasy Props
In Maya I created three fantasy-inspired props, practicing 3D modelling fundamentals in the process. Through this project I learned the basics of how to cleanly model, UV map, and texture models. In Substance Painter, I gained experience in using smart materials in order to add dynamic properties to the props such as dirt, dust, and scratches.
In Maya I fully modelled, rigged, and animated a robot character that I then fully integrated into Unreal Engine 4 as a playable third-person character. Through the process of creating this character, I learned valuable lessons about best practices for rigging and animation such as using Inverse Kinematics for realistic leg movement. I also got good experience in applying realistic movement for each cycle I created, including idle, walk, run, and jump.
Integrating this character into Ue4 enlightened me to the basics of animation blueprints, blend spaces, and making movement in the player blueprint.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
WPU 2021 Student Showcase
Through collaboration with the showcase event committee, I created the program booklet so people attending would be able to navigate WPU’s campus and find where and when showcases were occuring. Over the course of a year I iterated on designs in order to meet WPU’s brand standards. I also created a powerpoint template for students and faculty to use that streamlined presentations during the showcase.
Created in InDesign.
Montix Productions Content
In the Spring of 2020 I launched a YouTube Channel called Montix Productions.
I created two video edits based around cinematic representation of video games I loved. With this came creation of assets for both my channel and the video thumbnails.
I created my channel assets (banner, logo, etc.) in Illustrator using vector techniques. I made sure to keep the designs consistent in style across the different variations I had to create. I then utilized individual channel assets and created a motion graphic in Sony Vegas Pro for the video outro.
I created the thumbnails in Photoshop. I included a logo watermark in the corner to establish brand presence to the viewer. I also made sure each element popped in order to increase likelihood of people clicking on my content.
Other Designs
The following images are various other designs I have made as part of assignments in classes at William Peace University such as Design & Typography II and Imaging.
With all of these pieces, I was challenged to think critically about the application of the core elements and principles of design that I was taught. Through the design process I was able to combine my creative skills and problem solving skills in order to make a final product.
These images were all created in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
